Kate Greening
I chose Cumberland as my home twenty-four and a half years ago. I have been a notary public for almost 18 years.
I believe that when a person is elected to Council that they are promising to be stewards of the assets of the Village.
The most important of our assets is our community plan. The community plan sets out our vision of Cumberland.
And our plan is working!
Your land is worth more money today; there are homes being built in walking distance to the Village Core just like our plan said... controlled development within the area of the Historical Village; our residential containment boundary.
These people are helping to make Dunsmuir Street busy and fun. We have 2.5% more children 14 years and under than the average BC municipality.
These children will probably want to live here too. We also have 1% more 45-64 year olds which is why our plan is to have senior housing built on the land behind the cultural centre. The elders move there and the next young adults buy their home and the cycle continues. Our plan says we will make sure that the centre of the village stays where it is and doesn't move.
Our plan talks about wanting to fill in areas in the Village before making new residential areas. Some of the areas would be the residential reserve lands part of Coal Hills and such land as Maple Street.
It takes strong political vision and leadership to make sure that the residential containment boundary is enforced. I believe that I bring this strong political vision and leadership to the Council table on your behalf.
This Council has spent more than $98,000.00 of our money on negotiators who helped get some money from a developer for beautification rather than money for water or sewer pipes. Instead of worrying about spending money and getting donations for trees and benches, it would be better to ask for donations and money for sewer and water pipes, berms or you could even own your own pothole
I believe it is more important to work on the infrastructure than on surface beauty. Beautification only skims the surface and is only dirt deep.
In our community plan we acknowledge that we are a recharge area...the water that falls here fills up the creeks, rivers, wells and eventually the estuary. We have a plan to protect these environments.
The plan also is to have parks and greenways surrounding our residential area.
Our community plan includes people of all walks of life and we need to work together to find solutions that allow this cross section of people to enjoy the place we love to call home.
The official community plan is made up of goals and policies made by us, the people. Council must make sure every bylaw agrees with our plan
If elected to serve you as a Councillor, I will stand for Cumberland first; to protect the plan of the people; to listen to you.
On November 15th, vote for me, Kate Greening, and allow me to serve you.
