The Healthy Families Program at Comox Valley Family Services Association (CVFSA) offers many opportunities for families in the Valley to develop and maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Services include free weekly support groups, including transportation and nutritious meals or snacks, hands-on play activities, guest presentations and information about pregnancy, breastfeeding, baby care, child development, safety and nutrition. Individual appointments can be booked with outreach workers and a clothing exchange and emergency food hampers are also available.
The Healthy Families Program is expanding its outreach to rural communities. A Parent/Child drop-in group was introduced in Cumberland this summer in the pre-school room at the Cumberland Recreation Centre. Beginning in September, this group will continue to meet at this venue on Wednesdays from 12:30 – 2:00 pm. This free drop-in group is available to families with children 0 – 3 years of age and includes early learning activities, a nutritious snack, access to community resources and parenting information. A qualified staff member facilitates the group and is available to offer consultations as needed.
The Healthy Families Program is funded through the Public Health Agency of Canada, Comox Valley United Way, Valley Charitable Bingo Society and Success by 6. These dollars help to fund the following free programs:
The Healthy Babies Prenatal Nutrition program which helps pregnant women have a healthy baby; services continue for 6 months after the baby is born.
The Stay 'N Play group encourages parents to meet for support and practical information about growth and development of infants from 4 – 12 months of age.
The CAPC Parent Support Program provides a supportive learning environment for moms, dads, grandparents and kids.
We always welcome new families and would like to especially encourage families in the rural areas to attend our drop-in groups in Cumberland and Fanny Bay and meet our friendly staff and other parents enjoying our services.
