Teresa Wild
Has anybody actually read the trash that came in our post boxes this week? I say "trash", because I estimated that 99% of these flyers will be thrown in the garbage. I resent this waste of trees. I can't believe "the Harper Government" (since when has the Canadian government changed its name? They have the nerve to claim the title, AND with a minority!) would think that we, the tax paying citizens, would fall for this latest little attempt at propaganda. It's not even good propaganda. I must state: I do not want my tax dollars to go to "first class training" (by the US Department of Defense),"cutting edge equipment" (the better to kill you with, My Dear), and all to the tune of "$45 BILLION in new funding"!!!! My vote is certainly NOT for Stephen Harper as the leader who is on the "right track on supporting our troops". Who are the troops "protecting" us from? Is Afghanistan threatening Canada? This is Bush's war to secure the oil in the Middle East. It is ludicrous to call it the War on Terror. War IS Terror. I say: SUPPORT OUR TROOPS: BRING THEM HOME.

The Cumberlander exists as a channel for free expression. The image chosen by Teresa to accompany her rant was created by internationally renowned artist David Dees (www.dees2.com).

In his own words David encourages people to use his illustrations: "I encourage you to openly distribute to others with the hope it will educate, enlighten, deprogram, and at least, entertain. "

My own justification for supporting free artistic expression such as you see here goes back a long way and is best expressed by William Blake:

"Art degraded, imagination denied, war governs the nations."
Totally Wrong!!!

Being the wife of a service man who has put his life on the line to serve in a tactical squadron in Bosnia and now does the same locally when they rescue idiots as a member of 442 Search and Rescue Squadron, I was disgusted with the picture that accompanied Teresa Wild's rant about Harpers latest brochure. Inflammatory photo-shop pictures (or was it a cartoon?) doesn't do anybody any good, especially when the majority of Canadians haven't got a clue about what our role really is "over there"! Bad Cumberlander!!!
Afghan Civilians Bear the Brunt of War

Insert the link below into your browser for recent DemocracyNow! commentary on the war in Afghanistan:

"As violence escalates in Afghanistan, both Barack Obama and John McCain support sending more troops. “Both of them are wrong,” says Sonali Kolhatkar, host of Uprising on Pacifica radio station KPFK and co-author of the book Bleeding Afghanistan. “You really cannot solve the situation in Afghanistan by throwing more troops at it, because over the last several years tens of thousands of troops in Afghanistan have not managed to do anything other than worsen the war.”
