Anniversary of the Reichstag Fire
The following text is from my original article written Feb.27, 2007:

Today, February 27, 2007 is the anniversary of one of the most pivotal events in the history of the modern world. I draw your attention to this anniversary because it appears that history may be repeating itself.

The event I am referring to is the 1933 burning of the Reichstag, the assembly location of the German Parliament, by what, in its earliest days, was a democratically-elected Nazi regime.

This single act of government-sponsored-terror dramatically accelerated the advance to dictatorial power of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Regime. Just one day after the fire, Hitler asked and received from President Hindenburg, the Reichstag Fire Decree. The Reichstag Fire Decree suspended most civil liberties in Germany and set the stage for the atrocities that followed.
