When I lived in the boonies of
Cortes Island I was completely dependent on natural run-off for the source of my water. As a result, I became very mindful of my consumption of what many people, especially city dwellers, often take for granted.
The consequence of not using water wisely and of not restricting my use to within the natural limits of supply would have caused me serious inconvenience. Thankfully, I never had to haul water in great quantities to serve my needs.
Living close to the land the way I did on Cortes Island put me in touch with rainwater harvesting as a practical, inexpensive alternative to drilling a well in a remote area. Now, I look to such harvesting as a way of supplementing the supply that comes to our home via our municipal water system here in
Cumberland. How timely, then, that Victoria resident Freya Keddie has launched a new website devoted to rainwater harvesting!
Filled with informative articles, links, movies, and more, Freya's new site is a timely addition to the growing movement of self-empowered citizens who are making the transition to a less energy-consumptive future. The site includes lots of information about stormwater management as well.
