The
Cumberland Community Forest Society (CCFS) is thrilled to announce that charitable status has been achieved so that we can issue tax receipts for donations. In the past the Comox Valley Land Trust took care of our tax deductible donations. We will continue to partner with them in monitoring the covenant on the Cumberland Community Forest and we support their endeavor to promote regional planning that preserves the natural attributes we value.
We also want the thank the Comox Valley Land Trust for all the support they have given us these past seven years in which over $500,000 dollars in donations and grants went through their CCFS account. They also provided invaluable assistance in formulating the covenants which protect the Cumberland Community Forest.
The Comox Valley Land Trust will issue tax receipts for contributions received for the CCFS before April 30, 2008. In January or February of 2009 the CCFS will issue tax receipts for donations received from May 1st to Dec 31st, 2008 inclusive.
In 2005 the CCFS purchased over 156 acres for 1.1 million and gave that land to the Village of Cumberland as a wilderness park, protected by a conservation covenant. $490,000 is still owed on that purchase and our monthly donors and fundraising events service the debt. In addition, the CCFS is actively looking for ways to expand the Cumberland Community Forest.
If you wish to become a monthly donor or give a one time donation you will find the appropriate forms on our website at
www.cumberlandforest.com. All donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt.
