Move of Nala’atsi concerns Wachiay Friendship Centre
Wachiay Friendship Centre was surprised to hear that a decision had been made to move Nala’ atsi- SD 71’s alternate Aboriginal high school program, out of the Friendship Centre.
“What surprises us, is that we had not been involved in any formal discussions with
SD 71,” says Executive Director Wedlidi Speck.
Wachiay wrote to SD 71’s Superintendent and Chair on April 24, requesting a meeting to clarify what decisions have been made regarding Nala’atsi.
“We hope for a response soon,” adds Speck. “We would like to believe that there is an open and respectful relationship that we can operate from.”
Nala’atsi has been operating within the Friendship Centre since its’ beginning nine years ago.
