Miner's Memorial Day celebrated its 25th anniversary this year. Once again, working people representing a wide variety of political views converged in a peaceful show of solidarity that included speeches and the laying of wreaths and roses at the gravesites of unidentified miners.
The event was held at the gravesite of Cumberland's most famous miner, Ginger Goodwin, whose death in 1918 at the hand of Dominion Police officer Dan Campbell, precipitated the first general strike in Canada.
