Solutions to Climate Change – Feb.16

“There is new and stronger evidence that most of the [global] warming observed over the last 40 years is attributable to human activities”. So states the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in their latest report. But the recent meeting of world leaders in Bali to seek solutions saw little progress at the international level. And the policies of our federal government have resulted in Canada receiving the “Fossil Award” for misleading countries and quietly undermining international efforts at climate negotiations. It seems the only approach left is for concerned citizens everywhere to come together to formulate their own solutions and develop their own plans of action.

On February 16 the local chapter of the BC Sustainable Energy Association will be hosting a public meeting with Brian Gordon to explore solutions to climate change. Brian hails from Victoria and decided he owed it to his children to investigate the evidence on climate change - he concluded that the threat was real and that we had to change our ways. Brian became one of a handful of Canadians selected to attend training in Nashville, Tennessee with Al Gore. Since studying the information behind “An Inconvenient Truth” Brian has gone on to explore solutions, especially those applicable to Canada.

In addition there will be tables and brief presentations from organizations working on local solutions including - Canadian Earth Institute, SPUD, Building Green in a Changing Climate, and BC Sustainable Energy Association.

You are invited to attend this informative and positive presentation at the Florence Filberg Conference Hall on Saturday, February 16 at 7pm. Call 338-6165 for more information.
