Editor's Note: The following is a response to my previously posted query:

"If it requires permission to allow the development of a casino, what funding will Trilogy provide towards a thorough sociological impact study done by a research firm chosen by the village? Such a study would examine the expectable social consequences of building a casino within the boundaries of our community. I wish to know what other small communities have experienced with regard to casinos. What can we learn from their experience? What are the pros and cons of the casino experience for small communities?"

Hi Dwayne, in response to your comments on the Cumberlander, I can say the following:

Having been a Drug and Alcohol counsellor previously, based in the hospital, in a small town in the Cariboo of B.C., I can say that the effects of a Casino coming to a small town are devastating.

Money was put in by the government in advance of the Casino doors opening, in order to hire, (in addition to the already existing Drug and Alcohol and Addictions Services), Gambling Addict Counsellors, well knowing, that there would be a problem.

Now, in that community, the level of Addiction across the board has increased, in alcohol use, drugs, and gambling, and they cannot keep up with the demand for counselling services, it has done significant damage to families, couples, relationships and the very social fabric of that community.

A Casino has no benefit in a small community, or any community, for that matter. It is a well known fact that a Casino breeds more addiction, where addiction already exists.
