The Cumberlander is looking for citizen journalists of all ages and interests to help round out its coverage of local and regional events. Don't really know what the term "citizen journalist" refers to? Here's what Wikipedia has to say about it:
Citizen journalism, also known as public or participatory journalism, is the act of citizens "playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing and disseminating news and information," according to the seminal report We Media: How Audiences are Shaping the Future of News and Information, by Shayne Bowman and Chris Willis. They say, "The intent of this participation is to provide independent, reliable, accurate, wide-ranging and relevant information that a democracy requires."
If you feel inclined to take up this kind of action or if you feel you can support it through equipment use (digital cameras etc.) , funding, data entry etc., I want to hear from you. I will do everything I can to help you make citizen journalism a rewarding part of your life.
