Comox Valley residents, especially Cumberland Mayor and Council, need to wake up from the trance cast over them by the Trilogy Marketing Machine. In a very concerted effort, Trilogy has done everything possible to paint a rosy picture of what they will do for Cumberland and the Comox Valley.

What citizens must realize clearly is that Trilogy is a corporation whose central purpose is to make the most money possible with the least liability possible. We, the people, will be left holding the bag unless we are supremely vigilant about what our elected representatives sign us into.

Rather than tie our future to manifesting the booming, buzzing, automobile-dependent, highly consumptive Dream that Trilogy proposes, we should be actively preparing to share resources more equitably amongst all citizens and to find ways to live ever-more-lightly on the planet. The writing is surely on the wall and it indicates that a perfect storm of dramatic climate change, peak oil and a collapsing US economy is forming all around us.

Rather than sit by meekly and watch as Cumberland Council pushes through the Trilogy corporate agenda, valley citizens must stand up and demand a far deeper, more community-wide analysis and consideration of the rapidly-changing global context within which we dwell. How else than this to arrive at an agreement with Trilogy that truly serves the Greater Good?

Stand up and be heard at the Public Hearing at the Cumberland Cultural Center on Feb. 6, 2008, 7 PM!
