Cumberland retaining its own water system
By Colleen Dane - Comox Valley Record - January 18, 200
The term “regional” doesn’t include Cumberland when it comes to a Comox Valley-wide water system prescribed by the Ministry of Community Services.
Representatives with the village met with provincial staff last week to discuss the regional water system that’s been set out as a requirement within the new Comox Valley Regional District’s mandate.
Cumberland councillors were concerned about how that would impact them, since they have their own water system which draws from Allen Lake, farther inland from Comox Lake, which supplies the other two Valley municipalities.
“As far as he’s concerned, Cumberland’s water system will not be forced into a regional water system,” said Mayor Fred Bates about a meeting with deputy minister Dale Wall.
Councillors said that was a relief as the Feb. 15 inaugural meeting of the new restructured regional district board draws closer.
