Constructed in 1886 as the Temperance boarding house, the facility housed many in a time when mining was Cumberland. In the 1920's it became a licensed establishment and has been serving the local and tourist population ever since.

In the mid 1980's Harvey and Shannon Brown purchased the Waverley and have been running it as a "family" operation very much in the spirit of the vibrant community of Cumberland.
