An open letter to John Evans, CEO of Trilogy Development Corporation.

Dear John,

On January 6, 2007 I accepted your company's invitation to learn more about its proposed development of the Cumberland Interchange properties you are calling Cumberland East. Thank you. It was a very informative meeting.

You have openly stated a desire for openness and transparency in dealing with the public on matters related to your company's proposal and I applaud that desire. It is in the spirit of such openness that I make this request of you now.

During the Jan. 6th meeting, a number of new aspects of your proposed development came to light. I was particularly surprised to hear mention of the possibility of a casino being part of the package. This really got my attention. It also inspired me to ask you a question which has not yet been answered to my satisfaction. Please bear with me as I pose the question once again.

On the Trilogy website we encounter the following phrase with respect to Trilogy at Cumberland: "Listening to the Village; learning from the land..."

It is one thing to listen to someone and another thing to actually hear them. What I am asking of you once more is a declaration of what you have actually heard from the people of Cumberland Village. I acknowledge that, as you said, you have received support for your plans from many people in the village who support your vision, but what about the hundreds of people who do not support it? What do you understand their united NO to be about? Are they simply expressing a fear of change or is there something deeper and more substantial to their concerns?

Sincerely,

Dwayne Rourke
