Thanks to Kenda Gee, VIU's Worldbridger Film Series is able to offer screenings of Lost Years in Parksville and Nanaimo on January 25 and 26, respectively. See attached poster.
This is prior to Lost Year's national premiere on CBC-TV in mid-late February. It won the 2011 Best Documentary, History and Culture, Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival.
Of local interest is the interview with Larry Kwong who played with the Nanaimo Clippers (1942-43) and was known as the China Clipper. He "broke" the colour barrier in the National Hockey League. The film is unusual in its coverage of Chinese diaspora history, from Canada and the U.S. to Australia and New Zealand, as well as showing scenes of Took and Kenda Gee in Taishan County, Guangdong Province.
The film will also be screened in Richmond (January 28) and Vancouver (January 24). For additional info check the following:
