In his book
Maya Cosmogenesis 2012, John Major Jenkins reconstructs traditional Mayan cosmological teachings and shows us why, and for what purpose, many of the Mayan temple sites are situated where they are. In Guatemala, for example, Jenkins reveals that a whole lineage of Mayan calendar keepers were initiated into a world view focused on tracking the journey of the December Solstice Sun along a cosmic timeline known as the precession of the solstices.
Passage of the December Solstice Sun is bringing it ever closer to a portion of the sky the Maya call “The Heart of Heaven.” The Heart of Heaven, is none other than the center of our galaxy, and only once every 26,000 years, does the December Solstice Sun migrate to this position of the sky. Auspiciously, this event will occur precisely in the era in which we now live! The precession of the solstices is tracked annually by pinpointing on the horizon, the precise position of Sunrise on the morning of the Winter Solstice. This simple observation serves to reveal the fact that the slowly rotating backdrop of the night sky appears to move around the Earth at the rate of one degree every 72 years. Consequently, all of mankind experiences a continually changing orientation to galactic space. Cosmologies in all cultures have addressed this fact and have tried to make sense of it. None have been more precise than the Maya in doing so. These are a people still deeply concerned with what comes to them from the depths of the night sky and when they see a portal opening to the very Heart of Heaven, they are understandably excited. They see it as a tremendous opportunity for global spiritual renewal and Mayan elders such as
Hunbatz Men are actively encouraging people everywhere, to journey to the land of the Maya to begin manifesting the first stages of what is anticipated to be a worldwide transformation of consciousness.
The dream of Hunbatz and of other elders, is that the ancient temple sites of the Maya will be restored to their prior function as “universities of stone”, places of worship and of teaching about humanity’s cosmic origins. They believe that we as a species, are being called to awaken to a more spiritually unified and harmonious existence. In support of humanity’s difficult journey back into balance with the Earth, the Maya are offering to devoted seekers, their most sacred ancestral knowledge.
