I shed no tears when I heard that Brenda Fisher had left her job as Union Bay Improvement District Administrator.
It is my understanding that this UBID Administrator was originally hired to answer phones and to send out bills. How did she reach the point of earning $61,000 a year for working 37-l/2 hours a week, plus 6 weeks of vacation time and 12% RSP pension benefits with two part-time employees to assist her?
It was no surprise to me when I heard that because of a very large number of accounting errors, the accounting firm hired by UBID to do the UBID books, had to charge UBID an extra $4,300 to cover accounting errors made by Ms. Fisher. Shouldn't she be required to pay us back that $4,300 for performing her job so poorly? And I wonder how much more money she has cost us landowners over the years? All the years of paying her seminars and for what? I wonder why previous UBID Boards did not fire her in the past.
I know that a forensic audit would be very expensive. However, I hope that there will be a full review of past accounting practices of Ms. Fisher at the next UBID AGM and that our next Administrator will have integrity, the required skills for the position, and can get us out of the accounting mess which has been created by our past Board and administrator.
