What began as ‘Guerrilla’ Art on a local fence has become a Living Community Art Installation, and a great source of humour to staff and management at the Cumberland and District Credit Union on Dunsmuir Avenue in Cumberland.

After re-painting a fence next to the Cumberland Credit Union a couple of years ago, Tom Harrison CEO of the Credit Union, mounted a ‘post no bills’ sign to keep the fence looking shiny and new. “Posters are a predominant way of communicating what is going on in Cumberland. At the time we felt that there was enough space already available on the main street, and so we decided to encourage the use of our Community Board inside of the branch instead.”, says Tom about the ‘post no bills’ sign.

A few weeks ago, an anonymous Cumberland graffiti artist of sorts, permanently glued several pictures of famous Bills around the sign – Bill Clinton, Bill Murray, William (Bill) Shatner and Bill Cosby to name a few. The display generated quite a lot of animated conversation and became a spontaneous Art Installation. Within a few days, more ‘Bills’ were added to the collection. The staff and board of the Credit Union have embraced the new look, and are even inviting the public to post other ‘Bills’ (ask for glue inside of the Bank to mount them). “The Credit Union is a big part of this Community”, says board member Lenore Lowe “It’s great to see how much this Village has grown, and how many artists have gravitated here....and now it’s a lot of fun to have this live project happening just outside of our doors.”
