Andreas Hestler, course designer and spokesperson for
BC Bike Race has the following to say about this epic event that will course through Cumberland on Tuesday.
“ When BC Bike Race organizers offered me the chance to create my own stage race story I was intrigued. The area from Victoria to Whistler is where I grew up and learned to bike, so it's kinda like a dream job. And after a race career of 18 years I believe that I can create the best experience possible from an athlete's perspective.
My focus in designing this course is to showcase the spectacular terrain and create an unforgettable experience. As I mentioned before, a stage race unfolds like a story. So as the narrator of this story I want it to be exciting, and an experience that its participants will rave about for years to come.
It has become popular in today's culture and mindset to take week-long vacations. So as many people venture off for a week-long ski vacation, we are now offering the opportunity for a week-long bike vacation...fully supported! Of course it's for those of us out there who want a bit more in their down-time than just sand. BC Bike Race will offer a new experience to those who are familiar with epic bike racing. And, as of July 8th 2007, our location and our course will be world famous...who wouldn't want to be a part of that!?
Our message is simple: "bike where the biking is best".Cumberland's own
