So, for the sake of argument, let’s say that Union Bay landowners elect two more TAG trustees and TAG trustees now have a majority on the board.
When the board officially meets for the first time, with the public and landowners allowed to attend, what will they do about the $70,000 + of public money used by three UBID trustees, two private citizens and one staff member to pay for suing a landowner?
I think there are three choices for a new UBID board:
1. The board immediately stops the legal action against Mary Reynolds. The board agrees to ‘eat’ the $100,000 in legal costs and imposes a $145 levy on each landowner to recoup this money. This writes fini to this whole mess. Life goes on.
2. The board immediately stops the legal action against Mary Reynolds. It assesses the total costs incurred by the three trustees and divides this money equally among deJersey, Fisher, Prowse, Smith, Royer, Godfrey. An invoice is sent to each one itemizing their share and makes it clear that after 90 days, the debt will be turned over to a professional collection agency.
Note: this might be preferable because the UBID needs a new fire hall and a new fire engine.
3. The UBID attaches a lien on all the real property of deJersey, Fisher, Prowse, Smith, Royer, Godfrey.
Whatever course of action the UBID board chooses, landowners better hope the trustees have enough courage to go after the public money that these shameful six have used. These people have used the UBID treasury as their own personal slush fund. Shame.
Oh, did I mention that landowners get to vote for two new trustees on April 30? Check out the UBID web site for more details about who can vote, when, where:
http://www.union-bay.ca/ Most landowners will be voting for sure.
