A Courtenay man is in police custody and charged with aggravated assault following an incident that occurred on June 23rd, 2007.
The male, whose name will not be released to protect the identity of the victim, is charged with aggravated assault after dousing his girlfriend with lighter fluid and setting it on fire.
The victim is in the Intensive Care Unit at St. Josephs Hospital with burns to her chest, neck and arms.
RCMP Victim Services has been providing support to the victim.
The male has an extensive criminal history and has been remanded in custody until his first court appearance.
