Statistics Canada has outsourced the Canada Census software and data processing equipment, under the Free Trade Deal, to a subsidiary of US weapons maker Lockheed Martin.

Some Canadians believe it is a misuse of public monies to contract this part of our Canada Census to one of the biggest weapons manufacturing conglomerates in the world.

In 2006 Sandra Finley refused to fill out her census form due to privacy issues and to the involvement of weapons manufacturer Lockheed Martin in the CDN census. Finley was recently found guilty but was given an absolute discharge, meaning no penalty. But she is planning to appeal the guilty decision. Find out more here.
