RAFE MAIR HERE ... I received this letter in response to BC HYDRO IS CHEATING YOU!

Why is the media not picking up on this story?

It has disastrous consequences for the citizens of British Columbia?

You would think it would be “NEWS”

Here's my reply:

Dear Jack,

I'm the last one to explain why the mainstream media is ignoring this story. The only time they'll print something I've done will be in the form of my obituary and then they'll spell my name wrong!
It is an apt question because with a few isolated exceptions the public has, when not been ill informed by the media, has been been uninformed except for the times they have been misinformed. It is for this reason I always ask people to pass my emails on to friends so we can be our own media.

The story that BC Hydro is seeking a 55% rate increase for "badly needed projects" must mean Independent Power Projects - IPPs.

No doubt BC Hydro has some maintenance, upgrading and so on to deal with but the question they must be asked is this: Is this sum for IPPs and if so how much and over what period? If it's not for IPPs, you (BCH) are on the hooks to them for $50+ BILLION so how and when are you going to pay this money?

The tragic side, as I infer from your note, is that these questions should be easy to answer because the media would have been on this job going back to 2002.

When I say "IPPs" have sweetheart deals with BC Hydro, forced on them by the Campbell government, that force BC Hydro to buy all the power they produce TAKE OR PAY, and that because it comes at a time, during the runoff when IPPS can generate power, this means THAT BC HYDRO DOESN'T NEED IT BUT MUST TAKE IT, there isn't a newspaper article or TV clip I can use as evidence!

The same applies when I say, "UNDER THESE CIRCUMSTANCES HYDRO MUST EITHER EXPORT THE ENERGY AT LESS THAN 1/2 WHAT THEY PAID FOR IT, OR USE IT AT A PRICE 12 TIMES WHAT IT, ITSELF, CAN MAKE THE POWER FOR".

This isn't news. It isn't rocket science. Anyone who runs a household or a business knows that if you must buy something which will cost you twice as much as you can sell it for, or if you must buy something that costs you 12 times what you can make it for yourself, that something very bad is going to happen to you!
