A place where gardening, eating the fruit of your labours, and saving your seeds is illegal is some kind of bad, B-rated, Orwellian science fiction movie. Right?
Wrong! It’s being proposed in the United States (for real) and (you guessed it) agri-business is behind it. The industrialization of food isn’t just a bad 1950′s experiment that we can easily amend. Big, powerful and heavy handed corporations have sunk their teeth into the profits to be made by monopolizing supply. And they are not going to let go easily, consequences be damned.

IslandBoy says: "This is a good example of "Don't believe everything you read on the web. I recommend the editor actually look behind the story before passing on these incredible allegations."
Thank you IslandBoy (whoever you are) for your critique about my posting of a portion of this article. Your comments are appreciated and have caused me to reconsider my choice to post it. As a result, I am simply adding a question mark to the end of its title.
My intent in posting the article was simply to make people aware of government activities (even though in this case it is the American government) which may have a direct impact on the lives of Canadian citizens. Why? Because as is often the case, Canadian governments simply follow lock-step, the legislation of their US counterparts. (For example, Japanese internment during WWII...)
Readers who find this article provocative will want, as IslandBoy suggests, to look beyond it and its preliminary alarms. Mike Adams, the Health Ranger, has looked beyond and over at www.naturalnews.com has made the following declaration:
"Mark my words: Five years down the road, when the FDA's armed "food police" are running rampant across America, arresting farmers and imprisoning lettuce growers, people will be appalled, and they'll wonder, "How could we have let this happen!?" The answer is right here: You let it happen because you allowed Big Government to rule over the food supply. And if there's one thing we know about Big Government, it's that it always wants to get bigger."
If you are really interested in finding out more about what is going on with this issue, don't stop now. Search "food safety" on Mike Adam's site for more info. specific to this discussion.
Google "Codex Alimentarius".

Alarmist nonsense

Thanks for providing the links behind this article. If you go back to the actual legislation you will see there is nothing whatsoever to support the headline of this article. The bill, S510, may be a stupid piece of legislation, but the two websites that interpret it can only be described as irresponsible and paranoid. This is a good example of "Don't believe everything you read on the web. I recommend the editor actually look behind the story before passing on these incredible allegations. The Cumberlander provides a valuable service, but this kind of article really hurts it's credibility. Thanks.
