As we mark the fallen this Remembrance Day, we must also think about how we take care of those who return from conflict. Yesterday, Canada's veterans' ombudsman, retired Col. Pat Strogan, stepped down from his post after a three-year term.
His national survey of services for veterans and his report tabled this past summer has raised the alarm on a national problem.
From honoured military service to the homeless shelter shuffle, too many of Canada's veterans are not getting the support they need. Couch surfing, shelters and lean-tos in the woods are too often the reality of men and women who return home from service. What some find is a life that is no longer theirs, thanks to the emotional and physical cost of service in uniform.
