Preparation for construction of the Chinatown picnic shelter has begun. Cumberland Public Works staff cleared the site of stumps, rocks and other debris, dug a 20' x 20' base and packed it with gravel. John Leung wasted no time leveling the site with a rake. Pictured at the picnic table are (L-R) May Gee, Joyce Lowe, Grace Doherty, John Leung and Marie Lowe. In the foreground is the model shelter built by John for the recent Cumberland Chinatown Picnic Reunion in Vancouver. The concrete will be poured soon and the shelter constructed later this month. Our thanks go out to Cumberland's Manager of Community Services David Durrant for moving this project closer to completion.
