July 29, 2 - 5 pm

As part of the Comox Valley 30-Day Local Food Challenge we invite you to explore our 7 acres of themed gardens featuring over 30 different types of culinary herbs, an orchard of 50 fruit and nut trees, a perfume garden, an apothecary (medicine) garden, rare and exotic trees and an acre of organic vegetables. There is also a large pond, a 100 foot diameter planted labyrinth and a flock of heritage breed hens.

Taste the sun-warmed raspberries. Sample the pickled garlic. Nibble your way through the culinary herb garden. Enjoy a cup of delicious home grown herbal tea. Watch your lettuce being cut and your zuchinis being picked – you cannot get fresher than that!

The mission of our farm is to introduce people to the pleasures of eating local, fresh, seasonal foods, grown without pesticides and herbicides, as well as to the healing powers of plants. The 30-Day Local Food Challenge is a great way to connect people to the sources of their foods.

Innisfree Farm is located near the Trent River gorge in Royston. It is a destination farm with a market stand open 10 am – 4 pm on Saturdays offering a variety of produce, flowers, and herbal teas. The farm is host to “Gardens without Borders”, a not for profit organization dedicated to Horticulture Therapy (HT) and providing healing environments through plants and gardening. The farm offers workshops and classes on botanical medicine and organic gardening. There is also an internship program for apprentices and volunteers wanting to learn organic gardening, horticulture therapy and medical herbalism.

Co-owners Thierry Vrain (a retired soil biologist and plant pathologist) and Chanchal Cabrera (a professional medical herbalist and clinical aromatherapist) will be leading tours of the farm and gardens throughout the afternoon, answering your gardening questions and tempting your taste buds with an array of delicious fresh herbs and vegetables.

In view of the recent invasion and closure by government officials of the Marigold Natural Pharmacy in Courtenay, the need to educate ourselves has become more urgent than ever. It seems that as long as natural healing is viewed as a commodity, it has become more and more controlled. People must learn to find healing in their surrounding environment through growing and gathering of herbs, embracing the elements and seeking solace in wild places. Thank you for your work!
