June 18 & 19, 2010: The 25th Anniversary Miners Memorial Weekend
“Songs of the Workers”
Friday June 18th at Cumberland Cultural Centre (OAP) 2673 Dunsmuir - 7pm-11pm. Admission by donation. Offers a pub style evening of camaraderie and music with a variety of local and visiting performers. From Welsh Coal Mining Songs to Punk Rock covers and from traditional Labour Tunes to Maritime drinking songs - the evening is a celebration of workers tunes old and new.
Saturday June 19
8am-11am BCGEU Pancake Breakfast - Cumberland Cultural Centre 2673 Dunsmuir Ave
12pm Walking Group to follow the steps of Ginger's Funeral March to Cumberland Cemetery (leaves Cumberland Museum at Dunsmuir & First)
1pm Graveside Vigil at the Cumberland Cemetery (turn north on Minto Rd from the Comox Valley Parkway)- musical guests, speakers.
3pm Cumberland Mine sites Walking Tour with local historian Gwynn Sproule - leaves from Cumberland Museum
6pm-9pm Miners Memorial Day Dinner , $15 at the Cumberland Cultural Centre - speakers, music, theatre vignettes, prizes and a silent auction to raise funds for the Cumberland’s “little museum’.
