Dear Stephen,
I was counting on you to speak for me at the G20 summit. You have disappointed me, instead.
I know there have been media complaints of "snubbing" by the White House, but this kind of complaint sounds hypocritical in light of your highly publicized boycotting of the official speeches of certain leaders in the UN General Assembly. I was under the impression that the UN was supposedly standing for fair consensus among the member nations, and that respect for national differences was "de rigeur" in that venue. You have shown your ignorance in this instance, and it will only go towards the already accepted view of Canadians as uncouth, boring, ignorant, doughnut-eating individuals dressed for the outdoors. Maybe, while you're down there you could connect with the guys who coached Barack on how to be classy in the presence of the world elite. It looks way better on TV.
As for your fascination with the repatriation of Tim Hortons as a sign that our economy is really picking up, due to your government's tax strategies, it is obvious that you have really had to reach for this one. This little flag you have taken the opportunity to wave while you think everyone is watching really shows how desperate you are. I don't think anybody was fooled with this one, Stephen. In a failing economy, no one will be able to go out for coffee and doughnuts, even the cheap greasy ones at Tim's. Surely you can do better. How about buying back our railroads? Or some of the bankrupt companies that were doing well when Canada sold them to the US? It's a bargain sale down there, as China well knows.
Back to the G20. I, personally was quite interested in what the president of Iran had to say about Israel's policies towards their neighbours at every border. As a Canadian, I am ashamed that my representative, YOU, acted in such ignorance in an open forum of international communication by refusing to hear him out. I was also pretty impressed with old Crazy Qaddafi and his allegations that the H1N1 virus is a bio-weapon! At least he is reading the documents! You should do the same.
As a citizen of a country which prides itself in tolerance, I am really disappointed with your performance on my behalf. Yuck. I shudder to think what the rest of the world thinks of us now. Thanks for nothing.
Sincerely disgruntled, Teresa Wild
