LUSH Valley Food Action Society's Fruit Tree Project is in full swing for its 2009 season. The project is currently in its 10th year of operations and is a harvest-sharing partnership between fruit tree owners, volunteer pickers, and local food distribution agencies such as Comox Valley Family Services, Wachiay Friendship Center, and the soup kitchen. The project works on a 1/3’s system with 1/3 of the fruit picked going to the fruit tree owner, 1/3 to the pickers, and 1/3 to LUSH Valley.
Last year over 300 community members produced and harvested an estimated 16,000 pounds of otherwise wasted fruit, nuts, and vegetables.
If you would like to have your fruit trees picked or would like to help with the project please call LUSH Valley at 250-331-0152.
