My dear, sweet Human children;

It has been quite a while since I have heard from you. I hope you are doing well on Earth. It is such a vital and exciting place to live (if I DO say so Myself!), and I always look forward to seeing the amazing ways you all find to live there. I celebrate your ingenuity, and encourage you to live in harmony.

I wanted to let you know I have been hearing from some of the Other People. They have been noticing some strange behavior coming from the Human People. You know I love you all in your diversity, and I never see anything as “strange”. That is just how they put it. I am relaying their concerns, in hopes that you may take them to heart.

The Bear People are very angry that they have had to leave their favorite feeding places because they have been pushed out by the Human People. Also, that their prey is diminishing. They are perfectly fine about sharing, but, apparently, YOU are not, in their opinion.

Now, you know I dont like it when you kids fight. You need to learn to share.

The Beavers say you are breaking up their dams and killing their families. You should be careful before you just go ahead and cause so much pain to People who care so much for their young ones. They have feelings too. Maybe you could get into a creative discussion about water management and habitation. You might even learn something from them, as they have been around much longer than you have.

The Frog People have had more than a few things to say, as frogs are apt to do. They are experiencing much loss to their numbers due to your activities in the sky and water, and only the more robust ones are living long enough to produce eggs. Many of their offspring are deformed and not fertile. You know I have only encouraged you to be strong and healthy to survive all the situations you may come across, so try and be understanding with the Frog People. They have their own importance, just like you, and if they need to be large and loud, then let them be. The Dinosaur People found this worked for them for a few million years! They were some I was most proud of. You all get your chance.

I have also been alerted by the Plant People, some you call “invasive”. I gave them all permission to proliferate, and they have this right! Just because you dont like what somebody looks like, or how they grow and reproduce, or where they like to live, or where they come from, it doesnt give you the right to decide on their fate or deny their existence! I am particularly pleased with those who are so successful, and reward them with enormous opportunities; good prey, lots of space, pretty fins, feathers or petals... If somebody was actually threatening your food supply, a “Weed” in your garden, as you call them, then it would make sense that you pull them, but “irradication” in the Wild is a little extreme, don't you think? How would you feel, if some other People decided that the Human People were too many, too greedy, and in the “wrong places”? Maybe you need to change your attitude...…

Well, I am your Mother, after all, but I really think it is time you grew up and looked at your situation. You have been walking on your own two legs for some time now, and, even though you are still young, it is time you learned to respect your Elders. You have a really good thing going on Planet Earth with your fingers and toes, your brains and language, and there you are, acting like spoilt children, fighting amongst yourselves and bullying the other People. If you could just figure out how to get along, I think you might have quite a long, happy stay here, and learn a lot. But I must remind you that when you destroy your own nest, and fight with your neighbours, you may find that there is no place to rest and regain strength, no room to grow, no one to breed with, and if that happens, your People may not get to stay long enough to evolve into anything else...

That is the way it goes. No one exists without the help of the Others. Thats my Law, and it works just fine. Think about it. You are treading on very thin ice. Personally, I think the Bullfrog People have a better chance of evolving right now than you do.
Sorry. Tough love. Its always been my way: what doesnt kill you makes you stronger. I love all my children equally, no matter what you may think or hope. Everybody gets a chance: its only fair.
