We use words every day to express our thoughts, communicate with those around us and make ourselves heard. But do we truly understand the power that language has upon us?

According to Shauna B, master storyteller and metaphysical teacher, “the largely unacknowledged power of language affects the way we speak to ourselves and others. Our choice of words can inspire us, and can also trap us.” Shauna B uses language to entertain, educate and inspire, giving you “an opportunity to examine the nature of language in your communications with others.”
Shauna understands that words have power based on the meaning we give them and explores how that meaning can change over time. Take the word “sin” for instance. In biblical times, in the Aramaic language, the word for “sin” was a term used in archery to denote missing the mark. Only 2000 years later sin is defined as a “state of human nature in which the self is estranged from god.” What is the difference, and the correlation between these two meanings?

Shauna B will explore this question and share her insights into the origin of the seven deadly sins on May 29th at the Comox United Church, and on May 30th at the Campbell River Community Centre. Both events begin at 7pm.

Shauna will also provide a sneak preview of The Archetype Course, an opportunity to learn how to use the power of language and story to realize your dreams, which she will be teaching in June.

Advance tickets are $10 for adults ($15 at the door) and $5 for seniors, students and youth (12-18). Purchase tickets at Sound Advice in Courtenay, Blue Heron Books in Comox and the New Inner Odyssey in Campbell River. (Note: This event is metaphysical in nature and not affiliated with any religious organization.)
