The past Easter weekend saw community spirit shine almost as bright as the warm spring sun at the 2009 Cumberland Youngsters Easter Egg Hunt. In true Cumberland fashion the Easter Bunny arrived by bicycle and the event was a great success. Rythmic melodies by Tim Stepan, Yarrow Willard, and Joanna Finch, crafts, face painting, and oodles of chocolates, freshly baked treats and donated goodies greeted the many egg-seeking children.

This free family event was reminiscent of similar Village Easter Egg hunts held years ago. The turnout was perhaps an effective measurement of the growth and revitalization the Village continues to experience as over 100 Cumberland families with young children took part in the event.

The hunt was gratefully held at the No.6 Mine Park in Cumberland which is lovingly maintained by volunteers, making it a favorite Village play and picnic spot. Event organizers Currently Cumberland Community Newsletter and the Cumberland Community Schools Society ensured that smiles and laughter were plentiful.

The following generous community sponsors made sure that every child had something wonderful in their basket: Creative Exploration, Hugh Fletcher, Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial, Cumberland OAP, Village Hideaway Vacation Rental, Little Saplings Childcare, Rusty Rooster, Dodge City Video, Cumberland Village Bakery, Gatehouse Bistro & Gallery, Carmie's Cafe & Catering, Organic Family, Dark Side Chocolates, Dodge City Cycles, Seeds Natural Food Market, Silhouette Theatre & Dance Shop, the Cumberland Dental Centre, and a few anonymous donors too.

A heaping wheelbarrow of food was also donated by participants and collected for the Food Bank. Generosity and old-fashioned community spirit brought the event to fruition and caring volunteers and villagers made it truly come alive.
