Wachiay Friendship Centre is hosting a Community Celebration and Health Fair on Thursday, March 26, 2009, from 4:30- 6:30pm at the Florence Filberg Conference Hall, 411 Anderton Avenue, Courtenay.
“The event is to celebrate the urban Aboriginal communities participation in the development of the Comox Valley Urban Aboriginal Health Strategy,” said Roger Kishi- Health Strategy Coordinator. “We’ve heard from individuals and health service providers through a community forum, focus groups and meetings, and now we’d like to share what we’ve heard.”
The Comox Valley Urban Aboriginal Health Strategy was undertaken to identify needs and gaps, how they can be addressed, and to collaborate with health service providers on the delivery of services to the urban Aboriginal community. This project was funded by the Aboriginal Health Initiatives Program (AHIP) of VIHA.
The March 26 Celebration will begin at 4:30pm with a health fair, where information on health services will be available. The presentation of the health strategy will begin at 5:15pm, which will include aboriginal dance and song. The event will conclude with a social gathering with appetizers.
“We’re looking forward to reporting positive results of the process so far, and how we continue to build into the future,” added Roger Kishi.
