Retreat to a gentler time in historic
CUMBERLAND
British Columbia, Canada

C194-043

The Twisted Chimney is a 3-story Queen Anne home built in 1895 for the newly-weds Frank and Josie Smith. Frank was the surveyor of the Cumberland colliery. He was also involved with the layout and naming of the town's roads.

PIKET

In 1910 the house was purchased by businesswoman Diana Piket, owner of the successful Cumberland Hotel, (still operating today on Dunsmuir Avenue). She was known for her independence, as well as her "grand soirées" held in what she called Belvoir Villa.

Piket later sold the house to Robert McAllister, whose family held title for over fifty years; many Cumberland old-timers still refer to it as the "McAllister House." Newcomers often call it "that house with the twisted chimney", added in 1987, as its most unusual identifying characteristic.

Twistedlogolarge

As current custodians of this spectacular heritage home we operate it both as an artist’s studio/gallery and as a B & B under the name The Twisted Chimney. We look forward to hosting you sometime soon!
